  • Make sure you light your fire, BBQ or camping stove in an area away from your tent so it does not catch fire.
  • Ensure your stove or BBQ is on a flat, stable surface.
  • Never take your BBQ or stove inside your caravan or tent. BBQs and stoves produce carbon monoxide, a toxic gas. This can linger even as they cool. The heat can also cause fires.
  • Keep a bucket of water on hand.
  • Never leave your cooking unattended.
  • If your clothing catches fire, remember to STOP, DROP & ROLL.

Safety Tips

  • Do not use open flames (including candles) inside your caravan or tent.
  • Do not smoke inside your tent.
  • Install a smoke alarm and carbon monoxide alarm in your caravan, and regularly test your devices.
  • Have a fire blanket on hand in your tent or caravan. Shop fire blankets here.
  • Ensure your caravan is well ventilated.
  • Turn off all appliances when not in use.

If a fire occurs, evacuate as quickly as you can. Call the fire brigade on 999, and give your exact location. Using landmarks, such as a nearby pub, can be useful. You can also download the What3Words app.
