Description

SOLO 330-001

The Solo 330-001 is the industry-standard tool for functional smoke and CO detector testing, trusted by fire alarm engineers for BS 5839-1 compliance. Designed for high-frequency daily use, this precision dispenser delivers a controlled dose of test aerosol—ensuring rapid activation without the risk of contaminating or damaging sensitive detector sensors.

As a core component of the modular Solo Testing Range, the 330-001 provides a repeatable, professional alternative to manual spraying, helping engineers reduce aerosol waste and complete maintenance visits faster.

Note: This is a dispenser unit only; it requires a Solo Access Pole and approved Test Aerosol for operation.

Key Features of the Solo 330 Smoke Detector Tester

Feature Description
Smart Aerosol Control System The Solo 330-001 uses a precision spring-loaded delivery mechanism that releases aerosol only when the unit is correctly positioned against the detector. This eliminates unnecessary discharge, helping extend canister life significantly and reducing overall testing costs.
Clean Application Design The clear test cup forms a controlled environment around the detector, directing aerosol exactly where it’s needed. This prevents overspray, avoids residue build-up, and helps maintain clean ceilings and detector housings over time.
Adjustable Swivel Head A robust swivel joint allows the dispenser to remain level even when the pole is angled. This ensures proper alignment and consistent testing performance on detectors positioned in corners, high ceilings, or awkward installations.
Non-Conductive Safety Build Manufactured from durable, non-conductive polycarbonate, the unit is safe to use around electrical installations and sensitive equipment, making it suitable for demanding commercial and industrial environments.
Clear Visual Feedback The transparent cup allows engineers to easily monitor detector LED activation from ground level, providing immediate confirmation of a successful test and reducing time spent on each device.

Critical System Compatibility

Before purchasing, please verify your detector dimensions to ensure a correct airtight seal during testing.

  • Standard Detectors: The Solo 330-001 features a 100mm (4") internal aperture, making it the industry-standard choice for most conventional and addressable heads from Apollo, Hochiki, and System Sensor.

  • Large Profile Detectors: If you are testing larger, high-profile smoke or CO detectors—specifically the Honeywell Gent S-Quad, Fulleon, or Nittan ranges—this unit will not provide a sufficient seal.

  • The Solution: For these oversized heads, you must use the Solo 332 Large Diameter Dispenser. Using a standard 330 on a large-format detector leads to gas leakage, inconsistent testing, and wasted aerosol.

System Compatibility & Suitability

The Solo 330-001 is engineered for seamless integration with the modular Solo testing range. It is suitable for both conventional and addressable smoke and CO detectors from all major manufacturers, including Apollo, Hochiki, and System Sensor.

Operational Reach:

When used with Solo 100 or 108 Telescopic Access Poles, the dispenser allows for safe, BS 5839-1 compliant testing at heights of up to 9 metres, eliminating the need for ladders or high-access platforms in commercial and industrial settings.

Approved Consumables:

To maintain the Lifetime Warranty and prevent sensor "fattening" (oil residue build-up), this dispenser must only be used with approved Solo Test Aerosols:

Note: This unit is a precision delivery system; it is not intended for use with "hand-held" smoke sticks or unapproved third-party aerosols.

Solo 330 Usage & Maintenance Guide

To ensure BS 5839-1 compliant testing and extend the life of your equipment, follow these professional setup and maintenance steps:

  • Step 1: Canister Preparation Insert the Solo A10s or C3 canister into the red threaded base of the Solo 330. Ensure the canister is perfectly vertical to avoid cross-threading the valve.

  • Step 2: Priming the Valve Slowly tighten the base until you hear a faint "hiss" of aerosol release. Crucial: Immediately back the thread off slightly (half a turn). This "primes" the spring mechanism for a precise, controlled burst rather than a continuous spray.

  • Step 3: Pole Integration Snap the dispenser securely onto any Solo 100, 108, or 101 telescopic pole using the quick-release push-button. Ensure the swivel joint is tensioned correctly for the ceiling angle you are testing.

  • Step 4: Functional Testing Place the cup over the detector and press upward. The spring-loaded chamber will inject the correct dose. Hold for 1–2 seconds and observe the detector LED through the clear cup.

Ongoing Maintenance & Care

  • Aerosol Residue: Every 30 days, wipe the internal walls of the clear cup with a lint-free cloth. This prevents "oily build-up" which can attract dust and obscure your view of the detector's LED.

  • Seal Inspection: Periodically check the red silicone diaphragm at the top of the cup. If this seal is split or dirty, the gas will leak, wasting aerosol and causing inconsistent test results.

  • Storage: Always remove the aerosol canister before storing the Solo 330 in a kit bag to prevent accidental discharge and seal compression.

SOLO330-001 FAQ'S

No. The Solo 330 is specifically designed for Smoke and CO testing using aerosols. For heat detectors, you should use the Solo 461 Cordless Heat Tester.

This usually happens if the canister isn't "primed" correctly. Ensure you back off the red base by half a turn after hearing the initial hiss. Also, check that the red silicone seal is intact; a worn seal allows gas to escape.

Measure the diameter of your widest detector. If it is under 100mm, the Solo 330 is the correct choice. If you are testing larger heads like the Honeywell Gent S-Quad, Fike, or Nittan ranges, you must use the Solo 332, which features a 133mm internal aperture to ensure a proper airtight seal.

Yes, when used with Solo A10S (non-flammable) aerosol. Because the 330 uses a sealed-cup delivery method, the smoke is contained and directed specifically at the detector, preventing widespread contamination of the clean room atmosphere.

This is usually due to "over-testing." The Solo 330 is efficient; it only requires a 1–2 second burst. If you hold it for longer, the chamber becomes over-saturated with smoke, making it difficult for the detector to reset. If this happens, use the Solo 200 Removal Tool to briefly remove the head and clear the air.

Yes. There is a tension screw located on the swivel joint. Using a standard screwdriver, you can adjust the resistance to ensure the cup stays level when testing at difficult angles or on sloped ceilings.
