Description
Solo 461-001 Cordless Heat Detector Test Kit | Fire Alarm Testing
The Solo 461-001 is the industry-standard solution for functional heat detector testing, trusted by fire alarm engineers for BS 5839-1 compliance. Designed for professional high-frequency use, this cordless kit eliminates the need for trailing cables, power outlets, or ladders, allowing for rapid and safe testing in any commercial or industrial environment.
By utilising patented CAT™ (Cross Air Technology), the Solo 461 directs a focused beam of heated air directly onto the detector sensor, ensuring fast activation without the risk of overheating or damaging the detector's plastic housing.
Note: This is a complete testing kit. It is designed for seamless integration with the Solo Access Pole range to allow testing at heights of up to 9 metres, which are sold separately.

Key Technology & Features
-
Focused Heat Delivery (CAT™): Unlike generic heat tools, the Solo 461 only activates when the internal infrared beam is broken by the detector. This directs heat precisely across the sensor, protecting the detector casing from thermal warping.
-
True Cordless Mobility: With no hanging wires or heavy power packs, engineers can move freely through high-traffic areas, schools, and hospitals without creating trip hazards or requiring local power access.
-
Universal Design: The wide-aperture clear cup fits the vast majority of modern heat detectors, including leading heads from Apollo, Hochiki, and Gent.
-
Intelligent Power Management: The onboard microprocessor maintains constant heat and airflow even as battery voltage fluctuates. The unit enters "Standby" after 120 seconds to maximize battery life per shift.
-
Clear Visual Feedback: Colour-coded LED indicators provide immediate status updates on heating, standby, and battery levels during the test.
System Compatibility & Suitability
Before proceeding, ensure your site requirements align with the Solo 461 capabilities:
-
Standard Heat Detectors: Perfect for Fixed Temperature and Rate-of-Rise detectors.
-
High-Heat Sensors: Not suitable for specialized "High Heat" industrial sensors (rated over 90°C)—these may require specialized testing equipment.
-
Non-Restorable Detectors: Do not attempt to test "fusible link" or non-restorable detectors with this tool, as it will trigger a permanent alarm state.
-
Pole Integration: The 461 head unit is fully compatible with the Solo 100 / 108 Access Poles, making it safe for testing at ceiling height.
Standard Heat Detectors: Perfect for Fixed Temperature and Rate-of-Rise detectors. If you are performing multi-sensor testing, you will also require the Solo 330 Smoke Tester for functional smoke chamber activation.
Usage & Maintenance Guide
To ensure BS 5839-1 compliance and maximize your battery lifespan, follow these professional steps:
-
Baton Insertion: Slide a charged Solo 770 Battery Baton into the base of the Solo 460 head unit until it clicks.
-
Activation: Raise the tool over the detector. The infrared beam will trigger the heater automatically. Observe the Green LED to confirm the unit is heating.
-
Completion: Once the detector triggers, lower the tool immediately. This stops the heater, prevents overheating the sensor, and conserves battery.
-
Baton Rotation: For large sites, always keep your spare baton on the Solo 727 Charger.
Battery & Tool Care
-
The "Conditioning" Cycle: For new batteries, it is recommended to fully charge and then fully discharge them for the first 2–3 uses to ensure maximum capacity.
-
Sensor Cleaning: Every 30 days, wipe the internal infrared lenses with a dry, lint-free cloth. Dust build-up can cause the unit to stay "ON" or fail to activate.
-
Storage: Always remove the battery baton from the head unit before storing in a kit bag to prevent accidental activation and battery drain.
