The Solo A5-001 is a professional-grade smoke detector test aerosol designed for the functional testing of optical and ionisation smoke detectors. As the direct, compliant replacement for the discontinued Solo A3, the A5 delivers a concentrated, fire-simulating smoke that ensures rapid detector activation without leaving oily residues or causing long-term chamber contamination.
Used by fire alarm engineers, electrical contractors, and facilities managers, the Solo A5 produces a controlled test smoke that simulates genuine fire conditions. This allows for accurate BS 5839-1 compliant testing, identifying contaminated or slow-responding detectors without triggering unnecessary disruption to occupants.
Safety Note: Solo A5 is an Extremely Flammable Aerosol. For specialised environments where non-flammable consumables are mandatory (such as hospitals, marine vessels, or oil & gas facilities), please see the Solo A10-001.

Critical Safety & Storage Information
- Temperature Limits: Protect from sunlight and do not expose to temperatures exceeding 50°C.
- Ignition Hazards: Keep away from heat, hot surfaces, sparks, open flames, and other ignition sources. No smoking.
- Handling: Do not spray on an open flame or other ignition source. Do not pierce or burn the container, even after use.
- First Aid (Eyes): Flush eyes with water for at least 15 minutes while holding eyelids open.
- First Aid (Inhalation): If breathing is difficult, remove victim to fresh air and keep at rest in a position comfortable for breathing.
Professional Usage & Maintenance Tips
- Short Bursts Only: To get the most from your 250ml canister, use 1-2 second bursts. Oversaturating the detector can cause it to stay in alarm mode for too long.
- Dispenser Use: For maximum efficiency, use with the Solo 330 Dispenser. This contains the smoke around the detector, preventing waste and ensuring a faster response.
- Cleaning: If the detector does not clear after testing, it may be contaminated. Use Canned Air to clear the chamber of any dust or debris.
Professional Disposal Instructions
- Empty Containers: Recycle only completely emptied packaging.
- Partial Containers: Non-emptied aerosols should be disposed of in an approved waste disposal facility.
- Restriction: Do NOT landfill non-emptied aerosols.
